The 2011 Adelaide Sevens was a rugby union sevens tournament, part of the 2010-11 IRB Sevens World Series. The competition was held from 2–3 April at Adelaide Oval in Australia and featured 16 teams.

This was the final edition of the Adelaide Sevens, though not of the Australian leg of the IRB Sevens. On 13 April, the Australian Rugby Union announced that the Gold Coast had won the bidding to become the tournament's new host, starting with the 2011–12 edition and running through 2014–15. The tournament, to be held at Skilled Park, was initially known as the "International Rugby Sevens Gold Coast" but would later be rechristened as the "Gold Coast Sevens". It will also move from its previous April date to late November, becoming the first event in the IRB Sevens.[1][2]

Format Edit

The tournament consisted of four round-robin pools of four teams. All sixteen teams progressed to the knockout stage. The top two teams from each group progressed to quarter-finals in the main competition, with the winners of those quarter-finals competing in cup semi-finals and the losers competing in plate semi-finals. The bottom two teams from each group progressed to quarter-finals in the consolation competition, with the winners of those quarter-finals competing in bowl semi-finals and the losers competing in shield semi-finals.
